We know that Law school is time consuming. Recently, Kim Kardashian explained that she won’t begin a new venture until she has earned her law degree. In fact, she first revealed her law degree aspirations in an interview with Vogue in April 2019, saying she had begun a four-year apprenticeship with a firm in San Francisco, with the goal of taking the bar in 2022.

California, as well as three other U.S. states, offers a path to passing the bar without attending law school by “reading the law,” or apprenticing with a practicing lawyer or judge. The Bar candidate must study under a judge or lawyer for four years and must also pass the Baby Bar within three administrations after first becoming eligible to take the examination.

What is the Baby Bar?

The actual name for the baby bar is the First-Year Law Students’ Examination (FYLSE). It is administered by the State Bar of California in both June and October each year.

The baby bar is similar to the actual bar exam because it includes both essay and multiple-choice questions. The difference here is that, instead of testing all areas of law, the baby bar tests three areas of law: Contracts, Criminal Law, and Tort. The test focuses on general principles of law as opposed to the UBE.

It is actually not that easy!

The baby bar pass rate is about 20%. For the October 2019 baby bar exam, the passage rate was 22.1% (with a 29.5% passage rate for first-time takers and a 14.9% passage rate for repeat takers).

What is even more difficult here is that the candidates must pass the baby bar on their first try or within the first three administrations. If the applicant passes the baby bar after the first three times, they will still receive credit, but only for the first year (rather than receiving the full law school credit).

So, did Kim Kardashian pass the baby bar?

Judging from Kim’s recent tweets, it seems like she may have passed. In one of the tweets, she wrote, “I spend so many hours studying but it’s definitely worth it.” Then, when asked if she’d discuss her bar experience on her new podcast, she responded: “It’s going to be the best! I can’t wait for you guys to tune in.”

However,  In a clip released Wednesday from her family’s show “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” she confides in her sisters Kourtney and Khloe that she failed her law test.

“So you guys, I did not pass the baby bar,” the reality star and aspiring lawyer says.

Kardashian goes on to explain in her confessional that she’s doing a four-year law school program rather than a typical three year and that after the first year “you have to take the baby bar.”

What’s next for Kim Kardashian?

Kim Kardashian has been lamenting that she is “a failure” even though she spent six weeks straights studying for the exam. Her sisters are supportive, telling Kardashian that their father, famed lawyer Robert Kardashian, would be proud of her and pointing out what a noble thing she’s doing.

“The fact that I spent all that time away from my kids,” she says. “Like I can’t do it again, I don’t have time.”

Kim Kardashian recently posted a racy picture of herself preparing for the bar exam while in a string bikini. Since Kardashian passed the baby bar last year, she was allowed to continue for three more years of study.

As of 2021, Kim already has two years of law school under her belt and is set take take the bar exam in 2022.

Kim Kardashian isn’t a lawyer quite yet, but she’s definitely been putting in the work. If everything goes according to plan and Kim passes the bar exam, she’ll be well on her way to becoming a lawyer just like her late father, Robert Kardashian Sr.
